Vaughan has no courthouse of its own. York Region criminal matters are heard at the Newmarket courthouse on Eagle Street, and provincial offences at the York Region POA court on Yonge Street in Newmarket.
Vaughan carries some of the heaviest traffic enforcement in York Region. Highway 400 runs the length of the city, the 407 crosses it, and Highway 7 and Major Mackenzie Drive are arterial roads with steady York Regional Police presence. OPP enforces the 400 and 407 through Vaughan; York Regional Police enforces the city streets and the municipal arterials.
Neither charge is heard in Vaughan. Provincial offences go to the York Region Provincial Offences Court at 17150 Yonge Street in Newmarket — the Richmond Hill POA court on High Tech Road, which formerly heard southern York Region matters including Vaughan, has been consolidated into the Newmarket location. Criminal matters proceed at the Newmarket courthouse at 50 Eagle Street West, which handles all York Region criminal files. A stunt driving charge off the 400 at Rutherford and a dangerous driving charge from the same stretch end up in two different Newmarket buildings.
Point Duty accepts files across York Region and travels to Newmarket for both courts. The 400 through Vaughan is posted at 100 km/h, which puts the stunt driving threshold at 150 — a charge that carries a roadside licence suspension and vehicle impound before you have seen a courtroom.
