Peterborough criminal matters and Provincial Offences trials are both heard at the courthouse on Simcoe Street. The City's Provincial Offences office at City Hall handles filings and payments — it is not where trials are held.
Peterborough sits at the meeting of Highway 115 and Highway 7, the corridor between the 401 at Newcastle and the Kawarthas. OPP Peterborough County covers those highways; Peterborough Police Service covers the city. Charges out of the 115 stretch are a steady part of what comes out of this county, along with the rural county roads north and east of the city.
Peterborough is one of the few places where the Provincial Offences filing office and the Provincial Offences courtroom are at different addresses. Trials and early resolution meetings sit in Courtroom 5 at the Ontario Court of Justice, 70 Simcoe Street. The City's Provincial Offences office moved to City Hall at 500 George Street North on 1 October 2025 and handles paperwork and payments only. If you are attending for a trial, Simcoe Street is the address — George Street is a counter.
Criminal matters also proceed at 70 Simcoe Street, so a speeding charge and an assault charge from Peterborough are heard in the same building by different courts. Point Duty accepts files across Peterborough city and county and travels there for both. The first call is free.
