Defence in Cambridge.
Cambridge has no courthouse. Waterloo Region criminal matters are heard at the Kitchener courthouse on Frederick Street, and provincial offences at the Waterloo Region POA court on Queen Street North in Kitchener.
Cambridge sits at the junction of Highway 401 and Highway 8, at the southern end of Waterloo Region. The 401 through Cambridge is one of the most heavily enforced stretches in the region — OPP covers the highway, Waterloo Regional Police covers Hespeler Road, Franklin Boulevard and the city streets. Charges from the 401 near the Highway 24 and Townline Road interchanges are routine here.
Nothing is heard in Cambridge. Waterloo Region runs one Provincial Offences court, at 77 Queen Street North in Kitchener, and one criminal court, at 85 Frederick Street in Kitchener. The Region's office at 150 Main Street in Cambridge takes ticket payments — it is not a courtroom and no trial is scheduled there. A speeding or stunt driving charge from the 401 through Cambridge is answered in Kitchener.
Point Duty accepts files across Waterloo Region and travels to Kitchener for both courts. The 401 through Cambridge is posted at 100 km/h, which sets the stunt driving threshold at 150 and brings an automatic roadside licence suspension and vehicle impound with it. The first call is free — bring the notice and we will tell you what the realistic outcomes are.
